I understand the skepticism over “Donald Trump’s IVF Entitlement” (Review & Outlook, Aug. 31). But the former president is on the right track in investing in the growth of future generations. The alarming decline in the U.S. birthrate is a risk for our economy and national security.
While the Biden administration prefers to invest in youth in the form of college loans, which it subsequently forgives, Mr. Trump is smart to support families from the bottom up. I suggest redirecting the flow of federal funds away from rich universities to build state infertility clinics, or a plan to reward insurance companies for policies that cover multiple rounds of treatments. The U.S. could reap the long-term benefits of a new baby boom. Consider a wisely funded fertility-treatment plan a bargain.
