Mark Cuban says Trump Rx saving people ‘a lot of money’ on some drugs

Billionaire enterpreneur Mark Cuban on Wednesday touted the federal government’s TrumpRx drug platform, saying the initiative is saving Americans money.

“Everyone wants me to rip on TrumpRx,” Cuban wrote on the social platform X. “Reality is, it’s saving patients money on IVF and a few other drugs. A lot of money. IMO, anything that saves patients money is a win.”

Cuban, who has criticized President Trump and endorsed former Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential race, co-founded Cost Plus Drugs — which intends to cut out pharmaceutical intermediaries and reduce the price of prescription drugs — in 2022.

The investor went on to highlight “some great people that are making smart moves” within the Trump administration, including Chris Klomp, the chief counselor of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS); Mark Atalla, the department’s deputy assistant secretary for technology policy; and Abe Sutton, the deputy administrator for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

“When you talk to them, and see the work they put in, it’s obvious they are focused on trying to do the right thing for patients,” Cuban added. “Don’t forget they didn’t give the insurance industry a price increase they wanted, and those stock prices got crushed.”

TrumpRX, which the administration launched last month, offers discounted prices for 54 prescription drugs, including those for diabetes, an irregular heartbeat, stomach acid and fertility. Drugs offered on TrumpRX are all branded versions of the drugs sold directly by companies that have entered into “most favored nation” pricing agreements with the administration.

Juliette Cubanski, deputy director of the program on Medicare policy at KFF, told The Hill last month that for those with insurance, your “out-of-pocket costs are probably going to be less than the discounted list price that’s being advertised on TrumpRx.”

Cubanski noted, though, that some medications on TrumpRx that are not widely covered by insurance, notably those for weight loss and in vitro fertilization, will cost less on the government-run platform than otherwise.

Cuban, however, said TrumpRx and Cost Plus Drugs are “just getting started.”
