Organization thanks President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump and urges meaningful progress toward accessible, affordable fertility care
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Americans for IVF welcomes President Donald J. Trump’s executive order advancing women’s health, an initiative led by First Lady Melania Trump that explicitly identifies infertility among the conditions requiring greater research and clinical attention. The organization expressed hope that the initiative will lead to meaningful improvements for women struggling to build their families.
The October 19 executive order establishes a White House Women’s Health Task Force and directs the creation of a Women’s Health Division within the National Institutes of Health within 90 days. It emphasizes translating scientific research into better prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and clinical care.
“We thank President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump for elevating women’s health and explicitly including infertility in this important initiative,” said Rabbi Moshe Margaretten, Chairman of Americans for IVF. “Behind this issue are women and families carrying tremendous heartache, uncertainty, and financial strain. We hope this commitment will move us closer to a future in which every woman who needs fertility treatment has a meaningful opportunity to receive it.”
Americans for IVF particularly welcomed the initiative’s focus on turning research into practical improvements in care. The organization urged that implementation address both the medical challenges of infertility and the financial barriers that prevent patients from accessing treatment.
“As a fertility physician, I see how profoundly infertility affects patients’ lives,” said Dr. Joshua Klein, a fertility specialist and member of Americans for IVF’s Advisory Board. “Greater attention to the conditions that affect women’s fertility can help improve diagnosis and treatment. But progress must also reach the patient sitting across from her doctor who has an effective treatment option and cannot afford to pursue it. We hope this initiative advances both the science and access to the care women need, including IVF when medically appropriate.”
Americans for IVF expressed its readiness to contribute patient and physician perspectives as the initiative moves forward, and to work with the Administration, Congress, employers, and insurers to advance affordable fertility care and comprehensive insurance coverage.
“Helping families overcome infertility is a goal that should bring people together,” Rabbi Margaretten added. “We welcome this step and look forward to working together to turn its promise into meaningful results.”
